YWCA Endorses All 2020 King County Charter Amendments
Today, YWCA Seattle | King | Snohomish announced its endorsement of all seven King County charter amendments to reform policing, expand public land available for building affordable housing, create restorative justice programs, and to prevent discrimination against immigrants and LGBTQ+ service members.
YWCA has joined the Charter For Justice campaign, a statewide coalition of community advocates, nonprofit organizations, labor allies, and elected officials who are unified in the effort to approve the seven charter amendments on the November 2020 ballot.
YWCA has long fought to increase accountability for police violence and end racism in our systems of criminal justice. These amendments lay the foundation to build a new justice system based on public services and community-based rehabilitation programs. Paired with Amendment 2 to expand public land available to build affordable housing, these changes will lead to a King County where all Black women and their families can thrive.
