CenturyLink Field Arches Illumination Celebrates International Women’s Day and Historic YWCA Anniversary

Seattle skyline marks 125th anniversary year for local YWCA, the oldest nonprofit in Washington created to serve women and girls

SEATTLE – On the evening of Friday, March 8, CenturyLink Field will light up in vibrant persimmon – the official color of YWCA – to celebrate International Women’s Day 2019, and 125 years of serving local women. This special skyline glow also officially launches “All in For Washington Women”, a yearlong YW campaign to celebrate women and shine a spotlight on ways we can all support women and girls.

“When people see CenturyLink Field lit up in YW’s color, we hope they take a moment to envision what is truly possible for women in our society – and challenge themselves to get involved and make that change real,” said Maria Chavez Wilcox, the organization’s Chief Executive Officer.

Founded in 1894, YWCA Seattle | King | Snohomish is the oldest nonprofit in the region focused on the needs of women and girls, and is the second largest YWCA association in the United States. YW will host events throughout the year connecting the next generation of YW supporters to the critical work of serving women and girls throughout the Puget Sound.

With more than twenty locations throughout the region, YWCA serves women from every community—many of whom are facing challenges that range from escaping domestic violence to securing a living wage job. “All In for Washington Women” promotes a vision of Washington where every single woman can enjoy a safe, stable, fulfilling life of her choosing.
