ELEVATING WOMEN
2019 marked YWCA Seattle | King | Snohomish's 125th anniversary and was filled with community events themed around our commitment to being all in for Washington women. Among our amazing honorary co-chairs of the 125th celebration were Mary Snapp (YWCA Board Member and former Board Chair) and her husband, artist Spencer Frazer.
Inspired by YWCA's legacy of supporting women and families in our community, Spencer started creating a work of art to be displayed at a YWCA location. After interviewing members of the YWCA community, he decided on a theme of elevation, mirroring how YWCA elevates women through our housing, health, safety, and economic advancement programs.
We’re thrilled to be the recipient of such a meaningful gift. Check out this video feature on Spencer and his incredible painting for YWCA.
ARTIST BIO
Born and raised in Los Angeles, Spencer Frazer moved to Seattle in 1989 to be closer to the outdoors. Taking inspiration from the Pacific Northwest, Spencer's imaginative landscapes bring a distinctive perspective that communicates a mystical intrigue as well as a commentary about the environmental crisis. Using a unique visual language, his work is interwoven with stories and embedded with subliminal imagery that pushes and pulls the imagination.
