Last month, we unveiled the completed redesign of the health wing in our Seneca building, including the BABES Network offices and meeting space. BABES Network is one of the nation’s only peer-led groups for HIV-positive women, so upgrading the space was crucial for such a critical program.

For over 30 years, BABES Network, a program of YWCA, has provided peer support for women living with HIV. While folks may be familiar with groups that raise awareness around HIV and AIDS, BABES serves a critical need by being one of the nation’s only peer-led groups for HIV-positive women. Since 1989, BABES Network-YWCA has reduced isolation and stigma and created a sisterhood of support for women living with HIV and their families through education, outreach, advocacy, and more.

This renovation was a collaborative effort between YWCA, the 30/30 Project, and Construction for Change. The 30/30 Project’s mission is to bring access to quality, affordable healthcare to those who need it most, and this project’s goal was to create a more welcoming and enjoyable space for women living with HIV. With the completion of this redesign, the 30/30 Project culminates their initiative to build 30 healthcare facilities over a five-year period.

“I see the spaces we build as sacred spaces of hope. There’s something cool about renovating a space in a building that’s served women and kids for decades and decades.” - Kevin Hunter, Construction for Change Executive Director

In addition to the 30/30 Project and Construction for Change, other project partners include Google Campus, Albert Lee Appliance, Muckleshoot Charity Fund, Perkins+Will, Jeffrey Tritt and Associates, and Turner Construction.
