A day center like Angeline's works to provide daily needs to women experiencing homelessness or lack of necessities. Through donations and in-kind services, day centers provide community, stability, and support to people in need. YWCA’s volunteers work with YWCA staff to provide these services at Angeline’s.
Volunteers at Angeline’s help in many capacities. Opportunities at Angeline’s include one-time, ongoing, and service learning projects, making this program one of the best ways to get started with giving back.
- One-time service events make it easy for individuals or groups to make a meaningful contribution to YWCA one project at time.
- Ongoing tasks have been designed for volunteers that would like to engage in long-term positions.
- Service learning opportunities are positions with a set duration and specific learning goals.
One-Time: Angeline's Lunch Service
Angeline’s serves lunch from Monday through Saturday with volunteers who help to prepare and serve these meals. Volunteers for lunch service work in the kitchen doing a variety of assignments including: serving, prepping, stocking, cleaning, and cooking. This is a great midday opportunity for anyone working in the downtown corridor.
Ongoing: Office Support Specialists
Volunteers may also support Angeline’s by providing office support. Daily office support needs include data entry, filing, typing, and assisting with meal program reports. Additionally, volunteers can help with social activities and projects interacting with our homeless women, such as holiday events, birthdays, BINGO games, and more.
Service Learning: Seattle Pacific University Nurses
YWCA and Seattle Pacific University’s nursing program have teamed up to provide the women of Angeline’s with healthcare access. Nursing Service Learners volunteer at both the Angeline's Day Center and in a YWCA domestic violence shelter to work in partnership with the residents and staff and determine a joint plan of action to improve the residents’ nutritional health.
Why we love our Angeline's volunteers
- Volunteers increase our capacity to serve people.
- We feel great as volunteers develop their skills while assisting us in our goal of providing great service.
- It warms our hearts to see volunteers smile and feel enthusiastic about their work!
